Date Rape! Sexual
Related Crime! Do you agree that self defense is important to all
women today?
Last Wednesday June 13th, the whole nation (Malaysia) is once
again shocked by another sexual related crime. It happened somewhere
in Johor Baru and this time a 19 year old girl was raped by three
men and best of all, her boyfriend who was also abducted by the
group could do nothing to help his girl.
We are called upon to write something on this since sexual
related crime has becoming rampant here in Malaysia. Please do not
assume that every sexual related crime that happened here would be
covered in the news. The frightening truth is that there are more
unreported cases of sexual related crimes than reported ones. The
government would always deny this but our sources from NGOs
especially those fighting for the rights and justice for women have
all confirmed that it is true. Frankly speaking, we are not at all
surprised!
Almost all of the unreported cases of sexual related crimes here
in Malaysia are in the form of date rape. Date rape is still a rape
but to put it in better perspective refers to any non consensual
sexual activity between couples that knew each other quite well. On
most occasions, date rape takes place during actual dates and this
is why it is called date rape. This whole thing could either be
planned or happened in the heat of the moment spontaneously.
Most victims of date rape never knew its coming since date rape
happens while they were unconscious. Concerned parents and young
ladies should take note that drugs such as ketamine, GHB and
rohypnol that could knock and render people unconscious can be
bought easily over the counter in local pharmacies. Instead of using
it for medication, perverts and scumbags are using them to take
advantage of women especially those who are young and naïve.
Unsuspecting ladies going on a date would never notice that their
drinks or food on the table are being spiked or laced with drugs. By
the time they gain consciousness, it is all ready too late! If you
are worried about that, wait till you hear what we have discovered
recently. We were tinkering around with a few keywords on major
search engines yesterday and the results gave us the shock of our
lives! There are a few DIY or How-To websites that openly provides
recipes to make your very own home made concoction of date rape
drugs! Unbelievable!
The question that every woman especially those who are young and
naive should be asking at the moment is how to protect yourself from
these unfortunate events. Even though some date rape victims have
joined martial arts clubs as part of their curriculum activities
during their school and college years, they failed to use that
experience for their own good. After leaving school and college,
they lost their touch somehow and all those self defense skills are
gone for good. For the sake of your own safety, it is highly
recommended that women should take the initiative to enroll in any
short self defense courses. You can learn simple self defense
techniques that would give you the confidence to confront and fend
off sexual attacks from any assailants. Please do not look upon this
lightly, you may regret your decision for not taking this self
defense courses in the future! NGO’s gave us a very disturbing
figure on date rapes and we are really worried. You should too!
Other than taking up self defense courses, women should also
equip themselves with some self protection or self defense devices
such as pepper spray, stun gun, air taser and personal alarm. Some
of these self defense devices may require some sort of license but
their importance must not be questioned. The least that women could
have for their self protection is a pepper spray. It is small,
convenient and you can easily hide it inside your handbag. Then
again, no matter what type of device you are using for your self
protection needs, they are practically useless until you learn how
to use them properly and effectively. In the end, it would all point
back to the first recommendation. Self defense courses can teach you
many techniques that you can apply directly with your self
protection device. Mastering the art of self defense is no longer an
option, it is becoming a big necessity nowadays and women should
take this very seriously indeed.
This article may give some women a rude awakening but it is for
your own good in the end. Now that you know what you are up against,
