If you’re wondering what they are in the first place, they are
two of the world’s most popular web browsers today. The facts that I
would highlight later on is true based upon many reviews conducted
by technology experts.
I’m sure that users of Windows would need no introduction to
Internet Explorer. This browser is packed and bundled by default
with every purchase of any Windows operating system. If you are
using Windows XP, it is most likely that you are using an older
version of Internet Explorer, IE 6. You may download and install the
latest version of Internet Explorer 7 through Windows Update. Users
of the new Windows Vista would be using Internet Explorer 7 by
default.
As for Mozilla Firefox 2, those who are internet savvy should
know this browser pretty well. It is developed by a non-profit
organization known as the Mozilla Corporation. The best thing is
that Mozilla Firefox is an open source software which is distributed
freely anywhere in the world. It is also tri-licensed under the
Mozilla Public License, GNU General Public License and GNU Lesser
General Public License. To make it more understandable, this would
mean that Mozilla Firefox permits anyone to view, modify and/or
redistribute its original source code. Excellent!
What I found weird here is that Mozilla Firefox, a free software
have received numerous accolades and awards from major organizations
and technology experts this past few years. For an example:
- Forbes.com voted Mozilla Firefox as the best web browser in
2004!
- Well known PC World magazine named Mozilla Firefox as the
product of the year in 2005!
- In 2006 after the releases of versions Mozilla Firefox 2 and
Internet Explorer 7, PC World once again declared that Mozilla
Firefox 2 is a much better web browser than Internet Explorer 7!
- Latest news is that CNET, another well known technology
organization has also voted that Mozilla Firefox 2 is better
than Internet Explorer 7. While Internet Explorer 7 only
garnered a poor 47 points out of a possible 100, Mozilla Firefox
scored 64 points in their reviews! Way ahead of Internet
Explorer 7!
Isn’t it a bit weird to see something that was created and
intended to be distributed freely is deemed better than the one
created by the big Microsoft themselves? I do find it weird but most
technology experts are not that surprised. They have for a very long
time saw Microsoft as big giant that cares nothing other than money
and profit. Open Source software and applications (those that are
distributed freely) meanwhile were created by passionate communities
who are dedicated towards giving what’s best to the world. It is
something like what our moms have been doing in that kitchen of
theirs. Moms cooked and prepared food with passions unlike those
prepared at fancy restaurants. Haven’t you heard that moms cooking
are the best?
To make it short for anyone, Mozilla Firefox would give users the
following online advantages:
- Faster browsing experience!
- Better online security!
- Improved productivity!
So, what does all this mean to current users of Internet Explorer
then? Well, consider that it is time to move on to something much
better, Mozilla Firefox! I’m sure that from time to time you are
cursing your Internet Explorer browser for being sluggish and worst,
stalled for some unknown reasons when you are in the process of
