Over in Malaysia, the locals
here have been traditionally using this funny looking herbaceous
shrub for hundreds of years to treat ailments of kidney, bladder
stone, urinary tract infection, problematic liver or bladder,

for the past hundreds of years seem to know that this herbaceous

Orthosiphon Stamineus or
better known as Misai Kucing and Cat’s Whiskers in the region of
South East Asia is categorized as a herbaceous shrub that can grow
up to the height of 1.5m. It has whitish blue flowers with
extraordinary long extended filaments. No wonder they are calling it
Cat’s Whiskers. The leaves are opposite pairs of ovate, oblong and
lanceolate blades with serrate margins.
British colonization of
South East Asian countries has inadvertently led to the introduction
of this herbaceous shrub to Europe in the early 20th
century and later made popular in the form of herbal tea
concoctions. We have records that show scientific research on this
wonderful plant has started as early as in the 1970s by Van der
Venn.
Over in Malaysia, numerous
research institutes such as the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences
have conducted a number of extraction and formulation tests on
Orthosiphon Stamineus. Their research findings can be found

is also conducting a trial study to determine the efficacy of
Otrhosiphon Stamineus as compared to placebo on patients with

the magical ability of Orthsiphon Stamineus in decreasing systolic
blood pressure, cardiac output and diuretic action in their tests
